OUR PURPOSE
Established in 1992 to benefit Children’s National Hospital, the Van Metre 5K Run has raised over $3.1 million. In 2022, an additional $1.8 million was committed as a gift to help improve neurological outcomes for pediatric cardiology patients. Over the next four years, this gift will support the team of doctors at Children’s National as they develop new standards of care that will impact hundreds of babies with special hearts, helping to reduce the risk of neurological impairment and improve long-term neurological outcomes in children with CHD.

WHEN
The race will take place on Saturday, April 20th at 8:30AM. The 1-Mile Fun Run will start at 8:35AM.

WHERE
The race will begin at the Broadlands Marketplace: 43170 Southern Walk Plaza.

WHAT
Race day activities include an interactive warm up, arts & crafts, balloon animals, and temporary tattoos.

100% of the proceeds will go directly to Children’s National Hospital to help children in need.

Brain injury and neurodevelopment disabilities are significant complications of Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). As the #1 birth defect, CHD affects 1 in every 100 babies each year in the United States.
To support the team of doctors at Children’s National as they develop new standards of care that positively impact hundreds of babies with special hearts, the Van Metre 5K Run has raised over $3.1 million since 1992 to excel their pediatric cardiology researc h and innovation.

Award goes to the fastest overall runner. The runner will receive $300 cash.

$300 – 1st place male and female overall. These winners will receive an additional $100 gift card to the Potomac River Running Store
$200 – 2nd place male and female overall
$100 – 3rd place male and female overall

The top two male and female runners in the following age categories will receive a gift certificate.

Race Registration
The Van Metre 5K Run uses a USATF certified course and Chrono Track race timing system with disposable D-Tags.
